What I’m pinning: 1st Birthday Photography
If you’re a regular here on the blog, you know that C’s 1st birthday is coming up soon! One of the birthday festivities I’m most excited about is capturing C’s cuteness in some special photos, and I can’t wait for our good friend and the very talented Mel Cole to come over to take some sweet birthday snaps to commemorate the 1-year milestone. This week, I’m pinning some ideas I can share with Mel for inspiration before the big shoot. Based on what I’m gravitating towards so far, it’s clear that there are three key elements that will be involved in C’s photos:
- Balloons. I love the look of a big bundle of festive balloons in a 1st birthday photo. And, they can double as fun decor!
- A smash cake. We can’t let C’s birthday go by without subscribing to the smash cake trend, and I’m so excited to see what she thinks of her first bite of the good stuff. My sweet friend Claudia who has some mad kitchen skills (seriously, best cupcakes ever!) is whipping up an adorable VHC cake that will be an adorable touch for the photos, and delicious in our bellies, too.
- A tutu. There are not a lot of things cuter than a baby girl in a tutu! C has a very special one that will be a perfect match for her VHC-themed party. I’m still figuring out what else she’ll wear with it, but these pins prove that the answer to that question might be not very much!

Those are all so adorable! Love the balloons and tutus. You certainly can’t go wrong with all those cheerful colors!
What cute photos! The first one with the tutu and cake is my favorite. I love how original they are. She’s going to love looking at these when she’s older.
Definitely all the faces my kids made as they attempted to eat their first piece of birthday cake. I love those photos! The wall of balloons is so visually stunning! Though, I’m sure if they popped, you’d have some 1 year olds pooping their diapers.
