A winter white (and purple) baby shower

How stunning is this purple ombre cake? It tasted pretty delicious, too!

How stunning is this purple ombre cake? It tasted pretty delicious, too!

A few weeks ago, I posted about the prep I was doing to celebrate the upcoming birth of a BFF’s baby girl! Well, with the help of 5 other lovely and talented co-hostesses, we pulled it off and had a fun and festive party to welcome baby Ava this past weekend.

The theme began as “winter white,” but with the addition of purple accents (the guest of honor’s fave color), it evolved into a white and purple winter wonderland. Here’s the scoop on the party details:

  • Sweets. OMG y’all, this cake was so beautiful, and tasted equally as delicious! Austin favorite Russell’s Bakery really outdid themselves, and couldn’t have made a more perfect replica of the picture I sent them. One of the grandmas supplied some tasty almond cookies called “Sweeties,” which are an old family favorite. After eating more than a few of them, I can see why!
  • Hydrangea are always a good option, and they made these arrangements extra special.

Decor. The home that we enjoyed the party at is lovely to begin with, and the co-hostess who lives there did a great job of getting it winter ready with plenty of white candles, silver trays and crystal accents. Since Ava’s room is going to be gray and white, I found a cute gray chevron “A” from Etsy artist Bless Her Heart Designs. I love the stuff in this shop so much, I had to get a “C” to use for C’s upcoming 1st birthday party! Last but certainly not least, we worked with the fabulous Firefly Floral Design to create beautiful arrangements with wintery-themed plants. Finally, guests were sent on their way with cute and carefully crafted bags of sopapilla-flavored popcorn. Yum!

  • Food and drink. The savory counterparts to the glorious cake were made up of yummy tea sandwiches made by the guest of honor’s talented sis-in-law. Guests enjoyed artichoke dip and cucumber, brie and apple, and chicken salad bites while they mingled. We tried to keep up the white and purple theme as much as possible, and achieved the look with some yummy berry skewers topped with marshmallows. Because it wouldn’t be a proper shower without bubbly, we served Prosecco with blueberry floaters. Note: we had planned to use purple rock candy as a cocktail garnish, but don’t try this at home! The candy turned the Prosecco a strange, unappetizing dark bluish color, so the berries ended up being a much better option.
  • Gifts. We sent the guest of honor on her way with a slew of supplies for baby. One of the most thoughtful gifts she received was a baby health care package complete with everything you need to tend to a sick wee one. What a great idea! Instead of games, we decided to have all of the party-goers fill out sweet advice cards for mom-to-be. Instead of making these purple and white, these will match Ava’s nursery so that they can be displayed there if mom wishes.

I love the idea of white and purple! So pretty. It sounds like it was very elegant. I have not been to a baby shower in a while because most of my friends have grade school kids now. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos and ideas with us!
