What I’m pinning: my dream bedroom
As you know, sleep is one of the most wonderful things in the world. It’s even more valuable now that we know what it’s like to experience excessive sleep deprivation, and the precious hours that we spend snoozing in our little bed every night have become quite a luxury.
Except, we’ve been sleeping on the same mattress — the cheapest one that could possibly be found at Sleepy’s when we lived in NYC — for many moons. It has given up on us, and the ratio of good sleep to tossing and turning seems to be heading in the wrong direction as of late. And, though we both like to snuggle for the initial falling asleep period, we appreciate our space when serious sleep begins, and somehow don’t seem to have enough of it anymore in our Queen-size bed. That is why we’re planning our escape for sub-par sleep into a new, King-size dream bed. And of course, when one plans a new bed, naturally the rest of the bedroom must be freshened up as well, yes? It’s going to take us some time to procure all of the necessary pieces to make this plan complete, but in the meantime I shall pin up a storm to complete our vision!
Some items at the top of my list:
- Luxurious bedding. For real folks, really nice sheets, plush duvets and soft quilts make a difference. In the past, I’ve opted for economical bed items in mass quantities, rather than spending a little extra on the quilt I really want. This time around, I plan to save up to get my ‘dream’ situation – because I know it will be SO worth it when I sink into its amazingness every night
- A headboard. For some reason, the addition of a headboard just makes a bed and bedroom feel more adult to me. Since we’re official grown ups now,
- An office and/or vanity area. Our house is pretty small, and as our family grows and our stuff accumulates, we’re always looking for ways to consolidate things to make more space. Our current office arrangement takes up a lot of real estate that could be utilized in a million other ways, and our bedroom is big enough to fit a small office nook in the corner. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for ways to do this without sucking the comfiness and serenity out of the room. And oh yeah, having a vanity would be pretty awesome too. Perhaps this will happen when I finally complete that changing table makeover?
- A comfy chair. We spend lots of time snuggling with C in our bedroom, and lately I’ve been yearning for somewhere else to sit besides the bed. I imagine us curling up together to read a book, watch a movie or just talk. Yes, please!

Gosh – the pictures make me want to climb into bed RIGHT NOW!!! This sounds like lots of fun and I agree – a good bed makes all the difference!
Love the vanity and the chaise. Those 2 things make any bedroom:)
That first one looks so cozy. I sprung for the down bed topper, down comforter and high thread count sheets when I was pregnant with my last one. I’ve used the same sheets every day since then and they are not quite fitting the same any more since I always wash in hot water. I would love to move up to a King soon, as well. So, maybe I’ll save all of my buying for then. Have fun planning your room!
I just got up, but I would love to crawl back into one of those beds. What a great way to find what you really want your bedroom to look like. Enjoy planning your bedroom and making it happen!
